JOB GOAL:To maintain district vehicles and equipment in safe operating condition
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:- Plans and organizes repair and maintenance of district rolling equipment and other miscellaneous equipment as assigned
- Diagnoses, repairs, maintains and services equipment; performs general overhaul of engines; utilizes diagnostic equipment
- Monitors use of shop materials; maintains accurate inventory; orders supplies as required
- Assigns work to shop staff and outside contractors; inspects work completed by district mechanics and outside agencies
- Maintains accurate vehicle and shop records
- Enforces department safety procedures
- Coordinates with transportation staff the scheduling of inspections and repairs
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- High school diploma and recent supplemental training in subjects directly related to automotive/truck/bus mechanics
- Experience equivalent to journeyman mechanic in repair of heavy duty diesel and gasoline motorized equipment
- Ability to plan, assign, prioritize and evaluate shop work
- Ability to diagnose equipment problems and effect repairs
- Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations related to school transportation
- Knowledge and ability to use computers for department data entry and equipment diagnostics
- Ability to develop specifications for purchase of equipment
- Ability to work effectively with staff and public
- Knowledge of basic record‑keeping procedures
- Possession of or ability to obtain Class B license
$34.96 - $56.97 per hour
EVALUATION:Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the district's" improvement of Professional Services" handbook, Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD:A new employee, or a permanent employee who is changed to a new classification, shall serve a probationary period which shall not exceed one (1) year of duty time exclusive of leaves of absence or other absences. During this probationary period the employee must meet the required standards of performance to be recommended for permanent status in the classification.
MINIMUM APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:- High School Diploma

- Proof of privately owned automobile insurance and possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator's license may be required.
- Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met.
- Verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
