Spike Crew Supervisor

Summary

The Spike Crew Supervisor is responsible for leading Corps members during extended spike assignments, ensuring crew safety, logistics, quality control, and performance in remote and high-intensity environments. This role provides advanced leadership beyond the Crew Supervisor level, including spike planning, coordination, and accountability, and serves as the primary on-site authority during spike operations.

• Lead and supervise Corps members, Drivers, and Crew Leads during extended spike assignments
• Serve as the on-site authority for spike operations, safety, and conduct
• Conduct daily briefings, safety checks, and performance expectations
• Monitor crew morale, work quality, and endurance throughout the spike
• Work closely with sponsors on assigned projects

• Plan, organize, and execute spike logistics, including transportation, food, water, tools, gear, and camp setup
• Ensure safe food handling, water management, and camp operations
• Safeguard equipment, tools, and vehicles during off-site assignments

• Enforce FIELD/KSACC policies, Corps member code of conduct, and sponsor/state park rules
• Respond to emergencies and high-stress situations appropriately
• Complete required pre-spike and post-spike administrative tasks
• Maintain accurate documentation, including daily logs, production logs, fleet logs, timesheets, and incident reports

• Train and coach Corps members and Drivers and mentor Crew Leads in advanced field skills and endurance-based work
• Provide immediate feedback and corrective action as needed
• Ensure high-quality execution of conservation projects during spikes

• Directly supervise Corps members, Drivers, and Crew Leads during spike assignments (up to 14)
• Responsible for safety, logistics, quality, and discipline during spikes
• Does not supervise Crew Supervisors or set department-wide policy

• Operational authority during spike assignments
• Make real-time decisions related to safety, logistics, and crew management
• Escalate serious incidents or personnel matters to management

• Direct and evaluate Corps members, Drivers, and Crew Leads
• Environmental restoration
• Trail building, maintenance, and restoration
• Landscaping and tree planting
• Invasive species removal
• Fence building
• Water conservation irrigation
• Outdoor worksite camping (spiking)
• Fire fuel reduction
• Fire Training
• Physical Fitness

High School Diploma is required. Associates Degree in Urban Forestry, Environmental Conservation, Community Development or preferred.

• Minimum one (1) year experience in a supervisory position
• Minimum of one to two (1-2) years conservation corps or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required

• Valid California Driver License
• Must have approval from Insurance Carrier to operate company vehicle
• Must have a spot free driving record for at least 2 years
• Must undergo and pass a physical examination and drug test

• First Aid/CPR certificate, preferred, but not required
• Food Handler certificate

• Must be able to travel as needed/required
• Traveling up to 70% required
• Must be able and willing to participate in spikes where you may camp outdoors or lodge in primitive conditions for periods of time, up to eight (8) days at a time

Bilingual preferred, but not required.
