The Maintenance Mechanic will handle pipe fitting, boiler making, insulating, welding, machining, and repairing electrical or mechanical equipment. The successful candidate will install, align, and balance new equipment in the departments.
- Analyze mechanical and operational problems on assigned equipment and plan for corrective action.
- Make necessary corrections and run adjustments to maintain maximum production and quality.
- Test equipment to check for proper operation of machinery.
- Clear jams and set aside product for inspection and rework.
- Test equipment after repairs, changeovers, or extended downtime to ensure proper operation.
- Examine, test, and measure product from assigned equipment for quality specifications, using gauges and instruments, and record data on appropriate forms.
- Perform preventive maintenance checks and inspections of assigned equipment and report findings to supervisor.
- Analyze defects and examine spoilage causes to take corrective action.
- Record causes of production delays on daily production reports.
- Notify the maintenance department or supervisor of recurring equipment malfunctions, quality problems, or supplies needed and take corrective action.
- Instruct and direct maintenance trainees assigned to the section.
- Visually inspect and test machinery and equipment, listening for unusual sounds to detect malfunction.
- Discuss machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problems or repair machines.
- Make repairs to machinery in cold storage.
- Dismantle defective machines and equipment and install new or repaired parts.
- Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
- Lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
- Repair and replace gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
- Operate cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
- Perform other assigned duties and projects to support business needs.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School/GED or one to two years’ experience in a related field or a combination of both education and experience.
- Verifiable history of safe vehicle operation and a clean driving record, verified through background check.
- 5 or more years of experience in a related field.
Skills and Abilities
- Willingness to work rotating shifts on a continuous, seven‑day cycle.
- Attention to detail and thoroughness when completing work tasks.
- Proficiency with hand tools and trade-type tools.
- Ability to read and understand equipment and technical manuals.
- Clear and concise communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those involved in assigned responsibilities.
- Environmental exposure – cold/wet conditions (40 °F or below); work in warehouse and all facilities both indoor and outdoor.
- Material movement – moving mechanical parts.
- Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying up to 55 lbs.
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolding, using 3‑point contact regularly.
- Hand and arm dexterity for repetitive tasks.
- Ability to stand for long periods.
