Description
Under supervision, performs skilled journeyman-level work in the maintenance and repair of wastewater treatment plant and pumping station equipment, gasoline, methane, and propane engines, sewage/waste grinders, sludge and grit collection mechanism, blowers, equipment controllers, and other plant and pump station equipment; operates light and maintains parts inventory and equipment records; and performs related work as required.
Representative DutiesThe following typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of this class. They are descriptive, not limiting.
Essential DutiesPerforms overhaul, repair work, and preventative maintenance on all treatment plant and pump station equipment, internal combustion engines, sewage/waste grinders, electric motors, cranes, aerators and other related plant equipment;
Inspects, adjusts, and replaces engine, pump, blower and aerator parts including valves, pistons, cylinder heads, main bearing assemblies, sleeves, bearings and cooling and exhaust systems;
Performs general mechanical work on all treatment plant equipment;
Tunes engines using standard testing equipment;
Disassembles, repairs and reassembles air compressors, pumps, electric motors, generators, gear reductions, drive systems, digesters, aerators, boilers, heat exchangers, grit classifiers, comminutors, diffusers, valves and valve operators, and waste gas burners;
Does various related metal fabrication work by cutting, welding and other techniques;
Uses mechanical hand and power-driven tools and equipment such as grinders, sanders, drill presses, lathes, testing, welding equipment and other shop tools and equipment;
Adjusts and repairs boilers;
Repairs and maintains cogeneration facility.
- Four (4) years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, and engines; AND
- Successful completion of approved coursework in pump theory, welding and boiler operation or CWEA Mechanical Technologist Certification may be substituted for up to one (1) year of work experience; OR
- Equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the capabilities to perform the described duties.
- Possession of a valid class "C" California driver's license.
March 17th, 2026 (Tentative) An appraisal will be made of the applicant's experience, education, training, certification, knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal qualifications for the position. A minimum passing score of 70% is required.
