Wastewater Plant Operator I​/II - Advance Certifications

I: Under direct supervision, monitors wastewater treatment plant processes; performs routine laboratory tests, and a variety of semiskilled and skilled tasks, including making repairs and adjustments to equipment in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant; and performs related duties as assigned.

Full job descriptions: Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II

An appraisal will be made of the applicant's experience, education, training, certification, knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal qualifications for the position. A minimum passing score of 70% is required.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I:

• Graduation from high school or G.E.D.;
  AND
• One (1) year experience in semiskilled construction work, equipment maintenance, industrial plant or process operation and/or industrial plant maintenance.
• Possession of an Operator-in-Training Certificate Grade I (or higher), issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) must be obtained prior to expiration of the six (6) month probationary period.
• Must pass the examination for Grade I Certificate administered by the SWRCB no later than one (1) year after date of hire.
• Incumbents are required to obtain a Grade II Certificate (or higher), no later than two (2) years after attaining the Grade I Certificate.
• Possession of a valid Class “C” California driver's license required

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II, in addition to the above, must possess:

• Required experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants necessary to obtain a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II Certificate’
  AND
• Possession of a valid Grade II Operator’s Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board;
  AND
• Incumbents are required to obtain a Grade III Certificate (or higher), no later than three (3) years after attaining the Grade II Certificate
