Concrete Laborer

This role supports precast concrete production by preparing formwork, placing reinforcement and embeds, assisting with concrete placement and finishing, and safely handling materials and panels in a controlled plant environment. You will work as part of a production team to deliver high-quality precast products while following strict safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare formwork by cleaning and oiling forms, placing blockouts and inserts, and setting hardware according to drawings and build sheets.
  • Cut, place, and tie rebar and mesh reinforcement, ensuring correct spacing and placement to specifications.
  • Position lifting anchors, connection hardware, and other embedded items accurately to meet design and quality requirements.
  • Assist with concrete batching interface, including coordinating timing and readiness of forms for concrete placement.
  • Place, vibrate, and consolidate concrete to achieve proper compaction and minimize voids.
  • Finish concrete surfaces using trowels, floats, and edgers to achieve the required surface quality and texture.
  • Monitor concrete curing conditions and support curing processes to meet strength and quality targets.
  • Strip and de-mold precast panels from forms, handling them carefully to prevent damage.
  • Perform basic patching, rubbing, and finishing of panels after stripping to meet appearance and quality standards.
  • Prepare forms for the next pour by cleaning, inspecting, and resetting hardware and blockouts as needed.
  • Operate overhead cranes and forklifts to move panels, materials, and equipment safely within the plant and yard.
  • Stage panels and materials in the yard according to quality control direction and production needs.
  • Use hand tools and basic carpentry tools to build, adjust, or repair formwork and production fixtures.
  • Measure materials and layouts accurately using a tape measure to ensure compliance with drawings and build sheets.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas by following housekeeping and 5S practices throughout the shift.
  • Support daily preventive maintenance on tools and equipment as part of standard work routines.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, including lockout/tagout, powered industrial truck rules, crane and rigging protocols, silica controls, and PPE requirements.
  • Participate in daily team huddles to review production goals, safety topics, and work assignments.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, quality control, and teammates to resolve issues and maintain production flow.
Essential Skills
  • At least 6 months of experience in construction, concrete, fabrication, or manufacturing.
  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately to 1/16 of an inch.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly as part of daily duties.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
  • Strong safety-first mindset and consistent adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  • Hands-on experience with concrete or general labor tasks in an industrial or construction setting.
  • Proficiency using common hand tools safely and effectively.
  • Basic understanding of concrete placement or finishing processes.
  • Ability to follow drawings, build sheets, and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Comfort working in a production environment with repetitive tasks and set standards.
  • Commitment to maintaining clean, organized work areas and supporting housekeeping standards.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in precast or cast-in-place concrete operations huge plus.
  • Experience in rebar tying and placing reinforcement for structural elements.
  • Concrete finishing experience, including troweling, floating, and edging.
  • Exposure to rigging practices for lifting and moving large concrete elements.
  • Rigging and signal person certification or training.
  • Experience in carpentry, form building, or related trade work.
  • Production or manufacturing experience with focus on quality and throughput.
  • Comfort working with safety programs related to silica exposure and machine guarding.
