Maintenance Electrician

The Maintenance Electrician maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs production equipment in a high-volume food-processing environment. This role combines strong mechanical aptitude with solid electrical knowledge and experience working with automated systems to keep equipment operating safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production equipment used in high-volume food-processing operations.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on processing equipment, bottle filling machines, and plastic blow molding equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues on packaging, bottling, and blow molding equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Identify root causes of mechanical errors, including issues related to sensors, limit switches, lasers, and other control components, and determine how they affect machine performance.
  • Change and wire motors, including 480V and 240V single and three-phase motors, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain conveyors, chains, sprockets, gear boxes, pumps, and related mechanical systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair positive displacement pumps, centrifugal pumps, and PC pumps used in production processes.
  • Troubleshoot pneumatic valves and systems, as well as hydraulic cylinders and related components.
  • Perform PLC troubleshooting at a basic level to support fault finding and equipment recovery.
  • Use MIG welding on stainless steel and carbon steel for equipment repair and fabrication, with the potential to expand into TIG welding.
  • Utilize hand tools such as grinders and drills and operate forklifts as needed to support maintenance activities.
  • Support maintenance activities across juice extraction, processing, filling, and plastics departments, with a primary focus on bottle filling and bottle molding machines.
  • Comply with OSHA health and safety rules and follow all site safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including sweeping, cleaning up, and organizing tools and materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support production, maintenance, and overall plant operations.
Essential Skills
  • At least 5 years of experience in mechanical/electrical maintenance within a food production environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify and resolve mechanical issues on production equipment.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on processing, filling, and packaging equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with bottling and blow molding equipment, or similar high-speed packaging machinery.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair positive displacement pumps, centrifugal pumps, PC pumps, and related pumping systems.
  • Proficiency in working with conveyors, chains, sprockets, gear boxes, and conveyor systems.
  • Experience with 480V and 240V single and three-phase motors, including changing motors and wiring them safely.
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting skills, including working with drives, contractors, limit switches, sensors, and lasers.
  • Ability to troubleshoot pneumatic valves and systems, as well as hydraulic systems and cylinders.
  • MIG welding skills on stainless steel and carbon steel for equipment repair and fabrication.
  • Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting at a basic level to assist in diagnosing equipment faults.
  • Ability to comply with OSHA health and safety rules and follow safe work practices.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment with varying shifts and overtime.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in a food production environment is highly preferred.
  • Experience with packaging equipment is a plus, and bottling and blow molding experience is ideal.
  • TIG welding experience is a plus; training may be provided for candidates with strong MIG welding fundamentals.
  • Experience working with automation systems in a production or processing environment.
  • Forklift experience and the ability to safely move materials and equipment.
  • Proficiency with hand tools such as grinders and drills for maintenance and fabrication tasks.
