Job Summary and Responsibilities
The Nurse Shift Manager (NSM) is a Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for overseeing patient care and administrative activities in their respective department(s)/unit(s). The NSM continually evaluates the quality and effectiveness of patient care practices and delivery. Medical/clinical knowledge, technical skills, clinical judgment, interpersonal and communication skills as required by the CAMH are essential. The NSM promotes staffing compliance and ensures safe staffing assignments, monitors staffing to meet productivity and budget standards, and operates within the scope and standards of practice set by the American Nurses Association and related specialty organizations.
The NSM has the authority to hire, coach, counsel, evaluate, discipline, and terminate staff. The NSM is responsible and authorized to assign work, duties, and responsibilities, direct staff, and exercise independent judgment.
- RN license
- BLS & ACLS certification
- Knowledge of NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Three years of acute hospital clinical experience as an RN
- At least one year of recent experience (within 5 years) as charge nurse, relief charge nurse, or nursing management
