Tiello has partnered with a well-established Structural Steel Fabricator in the Central California region on their search for a QA/QC Manager. This organization supports a diverse portfolio of commercial and industrial structural steel projects and is seeking a hands‑on quality leader to oversee and continuously improve company‑wide quality systems, fabrication processes, welding compliance, coatings quality, and certification programs.
This role will serve as a key member of the leadership team and will work closely with operations, production, project management, customers, inspectors, and certification bodies to ensure quality standards are maintained while driving continuous improvement initiatives throughout the organization.
Role SummaryThe QA/QC Manager will lead the company's Quality Management System (QMS) across fabrication and coatings operations while overseeing quality personnel, inspections, welding compliance, bolting requirements, certifications, audits, and process improvement initiatives.
This individual will spend significant time on the shop floor evaluating workflows, identifying quality risks, reducing rework, improving operational efficiency, and supporting production teams. The ideal candidate will bring a hands‑on, practical approach to quality management while also possessing strong systems, documentation, and continuous improvement experience.

Job Responsibilities- Lead and continuously improve the company Quality Management System (QMS)
- Oversee fabrication and coatings quality control personnel
- Manage welding, bolting, inspection, and compliance programs
- Maintain compliance with AWS, AISC, ISO 9001, and customer-specific quality requirements
- Administer WPSs, PQRs, welder qualifications, calibration records, NCR logs, and quality documentation
- Coordinate welder qualification testing and welding procedure qualification activities
- Lead internal audits and coordinate external audits, certifications, and compliance reviews
- Serve as the primary quality liaison between customers, inspectors, auditors, certifying agencies, and internal operations teams
- Investigate non-conformances and implement corrective/preventive actions
- Analyze quality trends, recurring issues, and rework to identify continuous improvement opportunities
- Perform hands‑on inspections, weld evaluations, fit‑up verification, and documentation reviews as needed
- Collaborate with operations and production leadership to improve fabrication quality, efficiency, reporting, and traceability
- Support scheduling, estimating, and production planning efforts when quality concerns impact project execution
- Promote company-wide quality awareness, accountability, and continuous improvement initiatives
- 10+ years of structural steel fabrication and quality control experience
- Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required
- Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.8 structural welding codes
- Experience with AISC certification requirements and compliance programs
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems
- Experience overseeing fabrication quality programs and inspection personnel
- Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication processes and welding inspection methods
- Experience managing non-conformance reporting, corrective actions, and audit preparation
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents
- Prior leadership or management experience within fabrication quality environments
- AMPP/NACE certification preferred
- Experience managing AISC and ISO certification programs strongly preferred
- ASME code experience preferred
- Bilingual skills are a plus
