Job Summary
The Assistant Laboratory Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations within the laboratory, ensuring accurate and timely testing, adherence to quality standards, and compliance with regulatory requirements. This role provides guidance to laboratory staff, supports training efforts, and assists with sample analysis, troubleshooting instrumentation and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities- None at the start but may be added as needed
- Assist lab personnel with sample analysis and reporting as needed.
- Supervise daily laboratory activities, ensuring timely and accurate sample analysis and reporting.
- Provide technical support and guidance to analysts and technicians on routine procedures and equipment use.
- Monitor compliance with SOPs, safety protocols, and regulatory standards (e.g., EPA, CARB, SCAQMD, NELAC, etc.).
- Assist in calibration, validation, and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation.
- Review and approve test results, documentation, and data entry in LIMS.
- Support onboarding and training of new staff in technical procedures and compliance.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and ensure equipment is properly maintained.
- Collaborate with the Laboratory Manager to implement process improvements and meet performance goals.
- Prepare reports and documentation related to lab operations and quality metrics.
- Promote a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
$29.00-$38.00/hour DOE
Required Skills / Abilities- Strong understanding of laboratory testing principles and instrumentation.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and resolve routine technical issues.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and technical documentation practices.
- Familiarity with Chem Station and Peak Simple software.
- Intermediate understanding of quality assurance practices and regulatory compliance.
- Effective communication and team leadership skills.
- Ability to train and mentor junior staff.
- Strong organizational and problem‑solving abilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of laboratory experience, including some supervisory or lead responsibilities, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Familiarity with laboratory accreditation requirements such as NELAC or ISO 17025 would be beneficial.
- Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout laboratory and office environments.
- Manual dexterity to operate laboratory instruments and computer systems.
- Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to work in a laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals and environmental samples, using appropriate PPE.
