Stantec is seeking motivated on-call archaeologists with at least 1 year of CRM field experience in California to join our Environmental Services Cultural Resources Team. Our program supports a wide range of projects, including:
Statewide utility compliance programs; emergency fire response projects;
Hydroelectric relicensing studies; as well as CEQA and Section 106 compliance projects.

Responsibilities- Support archaeological field directors with pedestrian surveys, test excavations, data recovery, and construction monitoring.
- Identify and record precontact and historic-era cultural resources, including built-environment features.
- Take direction from Field Directors while working efficiently and accurately.
- Maintain detailed field documentation, including notes, sketches, and digital data.
- Assist with site recordation, artifact identification, in-field analysis, and lab processing.
- Ensure adherence to health and safety protocols in all field activities.
- Must reside in Southern California and be available for on-call assignments.
- Ability to complete physically demanding tasks in remote areas and/or extreme weather conditions (i.e., capable of walking/hiking long distances, carrying up to 50 pounds, and conducting manual excavation).
- Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, sometimes on short notice.
- Strong technical writing skills for field summaries, DPR preparation, and reporting.
- Proficient computer skills, including MS Word and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate field records.
- Ability to work and learn effectively as part of a team.
- Collaborative attitude.
- Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of California CRM field experience.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Familiarity with precontact and/or historic material culture in California/Great Basin.
- Experience in field survey, construction monitoring, and/or excavation.
- Experience recording sites and completing DPR Series 523 forms.
- Proficiency with GPS, mapping, and digital data collection tools (i.e., Arrow, ArcGIS, Survey
123). - Experience in utility sector projects (desired, not required).
