Temporary Air Quality Field Assistant
Location:
Bakersfield office. Temporary appointment for up to two (2) years.
The Air Quality Field Assistant is a para‑professional class that performs limited field inspections and provides operational support to their assigned programs.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct field site inspections of agricultural operations
- Issue violation notices to sources found out of compliance
- Perform inspections of grant projects to ensure guideline compliance
- Use instrumentation to measure and evaluate contaminated materials
- Respond to and investigate limited types of complaints of air‑pollution problems
- Conduct limited area investigations to detect permit and emissions violations
- Complete data entry and maintain accurate records
Three (3) years of para‑professional or technical support work in a scientific field with some technical training, OR equivalent coursework to an Associate’s degree in a scientific, mechanical, industrial or related discipline, OR three (3) years of support experience in an air‑quality setting. Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
Qualifications- Aptitude to learn air‑quality inspection and compliance principles and practices
- Knowledge of record keeping and reporting principles and practices
- Understanding of applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations
- Familiarity with operating basic air‑quality and related testing equipment
- Basic office administrative practices and procedures
- Business arithmetic, including percentages and decimals
- Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Skill in preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials
- Maintaining accurate records and files
- Understanding and explaining technical rules and regulations
- Exercising sound independent judgment and initiative within general policy guidelines
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Valid California Driver License and compliance with District's automobile insurability requirements
- Meet the District's medical standards for this classification
- Physical ability to work near and in the presence of hazardous and toxic materials, climb structures, lift equipment, and use appropriate respiratory protection equipment
- Sign a waiver to release all information related to past employment and complete a conflict of interest form
