Area Investigator Asset Protection
Reports To: District Security Manager.
Classification: Non‑Exempt.
Hourly Rate: $22.50 - $26.
The Investigator works under the APDM to respond to incidents and investigate matters related to shrink, policy violations, fraud, internal/external investigations, and asset protection. The Investigator provides detailed analysis, develops cases, and identifies opportunities to reduce shrink and liability. Occasional training of area auditors and undercover work may be required. The role requires wearing plain clothes, carrying full equipment, and maintaining an open schedule.
GeneralDuties and Responsibilities
- Investigate food portions in service departments and develop internal cases on dishonest acts by team members, building relationships with store management.
- Investigate unauthorized discounts, including markdowns, mislabeling/mispricing, and under‑weighing products in service departments.
- Investigate shrink in service departments or low profit areas due to over‑ordering, product waste, receiving issues, or theft, and may be trained and deployed across districts for undercover investigations.
- Use CCTV, exception reports, or NCR reports to develop cases on possible dishonest acts involving suspended, canceled, refund, void, and “sweet hearting” transactions.
- Investigate vendor theft by working with the Area Internal Auditor to develop cases, including liquor, baby formula, and tobacco theft, as directed by the APDM.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior loss prevention experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to make sound decisions under stress.
- Must be able to stand/walk the sales floor for the entire shift.
- Available to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Minimum age 18.
- Basic understanding of Spanish and English; reading, writing, and speaking.
- May lift supplies and materials light occasionally.
- Requires prolonged standing; up to 6–8 hours standing/walking.
- May need to travel between locations within the district; multiple store sites may require travel.
- Physical activities include climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and reasonable contact when performing arrests.
This is a non‑exempt position with a schedule based on business necessity and coordinated through the APDM. Available for flexible schedule, nights, weekends, and holidays.
