Position OverviewThe Civil Concrete Finisher plays a vital role in Total-Western's industrial construction team, responsible for the preparation, finishing, and maintenance of concrete structures. This position is integral to the delivery of high-quality, durable concrete foundations, floors, and other structures in industrial environments. The Concrete Finisher ensures that all projects meet stringent specifications and are completed safely, efficiently, and with precision. By working closely with other construction professionals, this role directly impacts the successful completion of key construction milestones.
Key Responsibilities- Concrete Preparation: Set up and prepare concrete for pouring, including setting forms, placing reinforcement bars, and ensuring surfaces are clean and level.
- Concrete Finishing: Smooth and finish concrete surfaces using hand and power tools, ensuring that surfaces are level, free of imperfections, and meet the required specifications.
- Surface Treatments: Apply curing compounds, texture finishes, and other surface treatments to ensure the durability and aesthetics of the concrete.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Review and interpret project blueprints and specifications to ensure accurate measurement, placement, and finishing of concrete structures.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and best practices, ensuring a safe work environment for both oneself and the team. This includes the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following OSHA guidelines.
- Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with other construction trades, such as carpenters and project managers, to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of tasks.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished concrete work for defects, cracks, or inconsistencies, making necessary adjustments to ensure the highest quality results.
- Education & Certification: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a recognized apprenticeship or vocational training program in concrete finishing is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in concrete finishing, with a proven track record of working on industrial construction projects.
- Skills: Expertise in handling and finishing concrete, including smoothing, leveling, and texturing surfaces; knowledge of various concrete additives, curing techniques, and finishing methods; proficiency in using finishing tools such as trowels, power tools, and screeds; strong attention to detail and the ability to ensure high-quality work under tight deadlines; excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment; ability to follow detailed instructions and blueprints with accuracy.
- Experience working on large-scale industrial projects, particularly in the oil and gas, petrochemical, or manufacturing industries.
- Familiarity with concrete testing and inspection processes.
- OSHA 30‑Hour Certification or other safety certifications.
