DescriptionCal State Communications provides end‑to‑end communication, networking, and electrical solutions for commercial, industrial, and public‑sector clients. The Cable Tech will work on a team of four technicians for commercial customers and be responsible for layered cabling, field splicing operations for OSP fiber optic networks, ensuring high‑quality installation, testing, documentation, and restoration of fiber infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities- Perform single‑mode and ribbon fusion splicing, including butt and lateral splicing, mid‑span cuts, ring cuts, and live‑fiber work.
- Troubleshoot fiber optic networks using OTDR, power meters, light sources, and visual fault locators.
- Install and maintain splice enclosures, cabinets, bulkheads, and distribution panels in both OSP and ISP environments.
- Read and interpret splice matrices, fiber schematics, construction prints, and cable schedules.
- Execute installation and routing of innerduct, conduit systems (Maxcell, Microduct, etc.), and fiber cable placement in aerial, underground, and data‑center environments.
- Maintain organized work vehicles, jobsite cleanliness, inventory of tools, consumables, and test equipment.
- Conduct fiber acceptance testing, loss‑budget verification, and documentation of test results.
- Support outage restorations, emergency repairs, and on‑call rotations as required.
- Maintain accurate cabling, splicing records, redlines, as‑builts, and jobsite documentation; provide daily updates, progress reports, and issue escalation to project stakeholders.
- 3–5+ years of professional fiber splicing experience; high‑count fiber and ribbon splicing strongly preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of OSP fiber networks, construction practices, and safety protocols.
- Proficiency with fusion splicers, ribbon splitters, OTDRs, power meters, and related tools.
- Ability to read and interpret network diagrams, blueprints, and engineering documentation.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to work outdoors, at heights, in confined spaces, and in all weather conditions.
Field‑based role requiring travel, outdoor work, and variable weather exposure. Work for commercial and oil industries.
Additional Skills- Cat6, Cabling, Cable puller, Telecommunication, Cable tech, conduit, RF, Troubleshooting.
- BICSI Certified (nice to have).
$30.00 – $35.00 per hour.
