Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Avantor is looking for a Maintenance Technician to join the team in Bakersfield, CA. The role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing manufacturing equipment and fixtures.
Work schedule:
6:00am–2:30pm.
- Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance on engines, motors, pneumatic equipment, conveyor systems, and production machines following diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, manufacturer instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshoot malfunctions.
- Maintain equipment, parts, and supply inventories by checking stock to determine inventory levels.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Maintain accurate history logs for all machines to aid in identifying and diagnosing problems.
- Assist in troubleshooting and repairs of electrical and electronic circuitry, hydraulic systems, plumbing, valve systems, filters, tanks, pumps, etc.
- Repair and maintain facility equipment.
- Strive to improve machine performance and minimize downtime through prior planning and thorough repairs.
- Provide mechanical support for production personnel.
- Operate, maintain, test, and recordkeeping for steam generation equipment and boilers.
- Maintain building electrical system and heating and cooling equipment.
- Perform maintenance or general carpentry on items such as doors, floors, docks, overhead doors, roof downspouts, product racks, and material handling equipment.
- Complete required reports when maintenance tasks are concluded.
- Answer security alarm calls as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; higher continuing education in a related area considered a plus.
- 1–2 years of maintenance, mechanical or electrical experience in an industrial or educational setting.
- Ability to work on gearboxes, agitators, and pumps.
- Knowledge of process piping, auto valves, exhaust/dust collection systems, steam generation systems, and screw/belt conveyors.
- Comfortable with basic safety and power tools knowledge.
- Understanding of preventive maintenance, reliability, mechanical integrity, quality assurance, and process safety management best practices preferred.
- Experience in ISO‑Certified, FDA‑Regulated, or cGMP environments preferred.
- Industry experience with machine set‑up fundamentals and solid troubleshooting skills.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to repair electrical and mechanical machinery throughout the plant. Necessary skills include electrical, pneumatics, PLC logic, and welding.
The work environment is an industrial warehouse with exposure to moving mechanical machinery. Noise levels are usually loud. The job requires working at heights, exposure to temperature changes, driving equipment, and possible exposure to dust, fumes, or gases.
PayThe expected pre‑tax pay for this position is $45,500 – $73,025. Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
