Job DescriptionUnder general direction, performs maintenance and repairs relating to fareboxes, destination signs, automatic vehicle locator equipment, passenger counters, video surveillance systems, two-way radio system and onboard infotainment equipment. Performs miscellaneous electronic/electrical repairs and installs facility cable and data lines. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:
An incumbent in this classification performs responsible technical work of a moderately complex nature. Work assigned to this position involves the application of specialized knowledge and abilities in the area of passenger vehicle electronics installation and maintenance. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
This classification reports to the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisors and Maintenance Manager. This position does not supervise.

Functional Area:
Knowledge of complex electronic operations; repair and troubleshooting of electronic equipment and systems; two-way radio systems.
- Assists with setting up new vehicles, products and service information within the fleet maintenance software system to document vehicle maintenance history.
- Performs preventative maintenance inspections on fareboxes, video surveillance equipment, destination signs, automatic vehicle location equipment, two-way radios, infotainment systems, and miscellaneous on-board electronic equipment.
- Performs repairs on fareboxes, video surveillance equipment, destination signs, automatic vehicle location equipment, two-way radios, infotainment systems, cash box receiver vault, coin counter, door access system, methane detection system, and miscellaneous on-board electronic equipment.
- Perform repairs, modifications, troubleshooting, calibration, removal and installation of complex electronic systems and equipment on transit vehicles.
- Checks functioning of newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions.
- Tests and calibrates electronic equipment using established test procedures; operates diagnostic test equipment, function generators, oscilloscopes, measuring test sets, meters, and other devices required to maintain electronic systems and equipment.
- Utilizes various schematics, blueprints, wire lists, equipment manuals, and other resources to repair electronic equipment.
- Performs service calls to repair farebox, destination signs, AVL equipment or related electronic repairs.
- Troubleshoots defective microprocessor-based equipment to identify problem components and makes necessary repairs.
- Maintains facility surveillance system and administers the facility door access system.
- Ensures fareboxes are ready for service daily and refills farebox card stock as needed.
- Ensures spare electronic equipment availability; research, order, receive and inventory electronic parts for repairs.
- Possess knowledge of the District's Environmental Policy and performs assigned tasks in accordance with the environmental regulations, permit regulations, District environmental policies and procedures that have been communicated to them.
- Enters data into computer and prepares variety of transit maintenance reports.
- Maintains sound client/customer/vendor business relationships.
- Assist mechanics in trouble shooting vehicular electronic systems including, but not limited to, wheelchair lifts, lighting and electronic engine controls.
- Administer warranty repairs and ship defective parts to vendors for repair.
- Assist the Maintenance Supervisors with the implementation of the Hazardous Materials Program and Agency Safety Program.
- Repair and maintain this District's two-way radios, including mobile units, hand-held units, repeater units, console, data head units and other related equipment.
- Troubleshoot, install and repair all related equipment associated with the fuel and fluid management system.
- Assure that two-way radio usage is within FCC rules and regulations.
- Assist other facility maintenance personnel with electrical troubleshooting.
- Install miscellaneous electronic equipment.
- Reports to work consistently, as assigned, which may occasionally include evening, weekend and/or holiday work shifts.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Knowledge of fleet parts and technical bulletins, modern office practices and procedures.
