HVAC Specialist

Located in the bustling Downtown Arts District, Bakersfield's Historic Padre Hotel is proudly the only Four Diamond hotel in Kern County. Our property offers distinct entertainment venues including a stunning event space, a coffee shop, a casual indoor dining restaurant and bar and a bustling outdoor bar and lounge, all within a beautifully appointed environment for our guests.

Padre Hotel is looking to immediately hire a qualified, enthusiastic, Full-Time HVAC Specialist. We are looking for world-class employees who go the extra mile and create the atmosphere that keeps our guests coming back time and time again.

Principal Responsibilities & Position

Purpose:

The HVAC Specialist is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and related mechanical systems throughout the property. Key responsibilities include preventive maintenance, troubleshooting system failures, ensuring guest comfort, maintaining energy efficiency, performing emergency service, and supporting capital improvements. This position works with hotel leadership and department managers to ensure building systems operate safely, reliably, and in accordance with facility standards.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, refrigeration, and ventilation equipment according to established schedules.
  • Inspect, clean, and replace filters, belts, motors, coils, condensate lines, and other HVAC components.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control system failures.
  • Maintain rooftop units, PTAC units, split systems, exhaust fans, make-up air units, chillers, boilers, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain proper temperature, humidity, ventilation, and indoor air quality throughout the property.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest and staff HVAC service requests and comfort complaints.
  • Perform scheduled inspections of mechanical rooms, rooftops, equipment areas, and associated infrastructure.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, preventive maintenance records, and work order documentation.
  • Coordinate HVAC repairs, upgrades, and projects with outside vendors and contractors as directed.
  • Support capital improvement, renovation, and retrofit projects involving HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Assist in emergency response situations involving building systems and after-hours HVAC failures.
  • Maintain engineering tools, equipment, workshops, storage areas, and work spaces in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, building codes, environmental requirements, and company policies.
Additional Duties (Non-specific Essential Functions):
  • Monitor system performance and identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reliability.
  • Assist with general maintenance duties as operational needs require.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management.
Supportive Functions:
  • Assist engineering team members with maintenance and renovation projects.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, training programs, and safety briefings.
  • Assist with inventory control and organization of engineering supplies.
  • Communicate maintenance concerns and recommendations to management.
  • Support operational departments in resolving facility-related issues.

Work Schedule:

Due to the hospitality industry's cyclical nature, employees may be required to work varying schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts to meet business needs

Qualification Standards

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical trade school certification or HVAC vocational training is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum three years of HVAC maintenance experience required.
  • Commercial or hospitality property HVAC experience preferred.

Licenses or Certificates:

  • EPA Section 608 certification for refrigerant handling required.
  • Valid California driver's license preferred.
  • Journeyman HVAC certification or C-20 contractor license preferred

Rate of Pay: $27.00-$29.00 per hour (based off experience)
