Overview
As an Underground
Laborer/Groundman
, you will support aerial and underground outside plant (OSP) telecommunications construction projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Work may include fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) installations, conduit and manhole construction, trenching, plowing, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), micro-trenching, vacuum excavation, cable pulling and blowing, aerial construction, pole work, and drop installation, depending on project requirements and terrain.
What you'll do:
- Follow direction from the Foreman or Supervisor to complete field labor tasks safely and efficiently
- Assist with shoveling, brush clearing, site cleanup, landscaping, vehicle washing, loading/unloading, and material handling
- Monitor excavation work to prevent utility strikes
- Follow safety procedures and use required protective equipment
- Operate or assist with trucks, trailers, and equipment, as trained
- Learn required inventory, tools, equipment, and jobsite procedures
- Climb poles safely when trained and certified
About you:
You are safety-minded, dependable, and comfortable working outdoors in challenging conditions. You take pride in quality work, enjoy solving problems, and are willing to learn new skills as part of a hands‑on team.
- Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a DOT medical card (Applicants are subject to an MVR review and must meet company safe‑driving standards)
- Ability to lift and carry up to 70 lbs
- Ability to read maps, drawings, diagrams, and schematics
- Climbing certification or related experience preferred (required for pole work assignments)
- Overhead or underground outside plant fiber construction experience, is preferred
- Knowledge of overhead materials, clearance codes, and network design, is preferred
- Flagger certification preferred or ability to obtain it, as needed

Compensation of $18-$25 per hour, depending on the experience.
Additional details:
- Overtime pay will be provided in accordance with California labor laws, at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate for hours worked over 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a workweek
- Rest and Meal Breaks will be compensated for paid rest periods and granted unpaid meal breaks in accordance with California labor laws
- Your employment with Mas Tec is "at-will," meaning either you or the company may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or notice
