Position: Class A CDL Hazmat/Tanker Driver

Employment Type: Full-Time

Location: Bakersfield, California

Position Summary

Reliant Tank Division is seeking experienced, dependable, and safety-focused Class A CDL Drivers to transport tanker loads safely and efficiently. Drivers are responsible for operating commercial tanker equipment, completing assigned loads, and following all company, customer, DOT, FMCSA, and hazardous-material transportation requirements.

Because this position involves tanker and hazardous-material transportation, drivers are expected to maintain a high level of safety awareness and follow established loading, unloading, spill-prevention, and emergency procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Safely operate tractor-trailer and tanker equipment.
  • Transport hazardous and non-hazardous liquid products as assigned.
  • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of tractor, trailer, tank, hoses, valves, fittings, and other equipment.
  • Safely load and unload products according to company, customer, and facility procedures.
  • Verify products, quantities, destinations, shipping documents, placards, and other load information before transportation.
  • Properly connect, disconnect, inspect, and secure hoses and related equipment.
  • Follow all hazardous-material handling and transportation requirements.
  • Maintain required shipping papers and other hazmat documentation.
  • Properly display required placards.
  • Maintain accurate electronic logs and comply with Hours of Service requirements.
  • Maintain regular communication with dispatch regarding load status, delays, equipment issues, and customer concerns.
  • Immediately report spills, leaks, product releases, accidents, injuries, equipment defects, or other safety incidents.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Follow all customer and facility safety requirements.
  • Maintain assigned tractor, trailer, and equipment in a clean and professional condition.
  • Attend required safety meetings and training.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Current Tank Vehicle endorsement.
  • Current Hazardous Materials endorsement, when required for assigned loads.
  • Must meet applicable DOT driver qualification requirements.
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Must be able to pass required DOT drug and alcohol testing.
  • Must maintain a valid DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate, when required.
  • Ability to safely operate tanker equipment.
  • Ability to use an Electronic Logging Device (ELD) and required company technology.
  • Ability to understand shipping papers, bills of lading, placards, and other transportation documentation.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
Driver Expectations
  • Report to work ready and available for scheduled assignments.
  • Arrive at pickup and delivery locations on time whenever conditions reasonably permit.
  • Communicate promptly with dispatch regarding delays or changes.
  • Operate company equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Treat customers, employees, vendors, and the public professionally.
  • Protect company and customer property.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Never operate company equipment while impaired or in violation of applicable drug and alcohol regulations.
Physical Requirements

Drivers may be required to sit and drive for extended periods; repeatedly enter and exit the tractor; climb ladders or steps associated with tanker equipment; bend, reach, push, pull, and handle hoses and equipment; and perform other physical activities necessary to safely load, unload, inspect, and operate assigned equipment.

Drivers must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Safety

Safety is a condition of employment with Reliant Tank Division. Drivers must comply with applicable DOT, FMCSA, hazardous-material, customer, and company safety requirements. Unsafe operation of company equipment or failure to follow required safety procedures may result in corrective action, up to and including termination of employment.
