Safety Specialist II (Dallas/East Texas)
Future Infrastructure, a Primoris Company, is a leading communications infrastructure specialty contractor offering program management, engineering, construction, and maintenance services to the leading communications companies across U.S. markets.
The Safety Specialist II provides front-line Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) support across an assigned operating region, with a strong focus on telecom and fiber installation and construction operations. This role is a key member of the regional HSE team and supports the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the company's HSE Management System.
The Safety Specialist II works closely with field crews and operational leadership to ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, client, and internal safety standards while promoting a strong, proactive safety culture. This position requires regular field presence and hands-on engagement with active construction sites.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Promote and reinforce a positive safety culture that supports quality, reliability, and strong safety performance.
- Provide front-line safety leadership to telecom, fiber, and utility construction crews (aerial, underground, and civil work).
- Assist in the guidance, coaching, and training of Safety Stewards and field leadership.
- Conduct job site safety audits, inspections, and observations to ensure compliance with Company policies, OSHA, DOT, and applicable state and local regulations.
- Anticipate, identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions and unsafe work practices; develop and implement appropriate hazard controls.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and annual review of safety programs, procedures, JSAs, and work plans.
- Implement and facilitate site-specific and customer-required safety training, toolbox talks, and orientations.
- Respond to and manage all safety incidents, including:
- Incident and near-miss investigations
- Root cause analysis
- Corrective action development and follow-up
- Internal and external reporting
- Support permit processes (excavation/trenching, confined space, hot work, traffic control, etc.) as applicable.
- Perform and document vehicle, tool, and equipment inspections on a routine basis.
- Communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, and management to ensure consistent understanding of safety expectations.
- Facilitate Weekly safety meetings; including topic selection and material development
- Serve as a visible field presence with stop-work authority when unsafe conditions are observed.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in:
- Front-line safety management and/or
- Construction, civil works, utility, or telecom infrastructure operations
- Must be bilingual (English / Spanish):
- Ability to effectively communicate safety policies, procedures, and training materials to a diverse workforce.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- OSHA construction standards
- Utility installation and excavation safety
- Hazard recognition and risk mitigation
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, field-driven environment.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel regularly to job sites.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental/Public Health, or a related field (preferred).
- Safety certifications such as:
- OSHA 10, 30, or 500 (Construction)
- CHST, ASP, CSP, or similar credentials
- First Aid / CPR / AED
- Experience in telecom and fiber construction, including:
- Underground utilities
- Aerial work and aerial lifts
- ROW construction
- Familiarity with:
- Behavior-Based Safety programs
- Operational Qualification (OQ) requirements
- Client-driven safety programs
- Equipment and safety training experience (e.g., Aerial Lift, Forklift).
Ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Front-line safety leadership and field credibility
- Strong communication, coaching, and influencing skills
- Incident investigation and analytical abilities
- Technical writing and documentation skills
- Ability to motivate, inspire, and reinforce safe behaviors
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Work will be performed primarily in the field at active construction sites.
- Must be able to work in extreme hot and/or cold weather conditions.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking on uneven terrain.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Required to wear appropriate PPE while on job sites.
Travel Required:
At least 20%
