Position Overview:
The accounting team at Ollie’s Bargain Outlets is looking for an experienced Senior Staff Accountant. The successful candidate in this role will be responsible for supporting the accounting department in various areas; including, but not limited to the preparation and filing of the quarterly and annual SEC financial statements, variance analysis, development and documentation of internal controls and monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter who enjoys working in a challenging and fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and an objective approach to learning and problem-solving are a must.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Participate in the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including collaboration and coordination amongst multiple stakeholders.
- Prepare general ledger entries by maintaining records, files and account reconciliations.
- Review general ledger for input accuracy and verification of accounts.
- Responsible for the preparation of consolidated financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Responsible for the analysis of financial data by summarizing and interpreting data.
- Develop and maintain internal controls and related documentation.
- Prepare quarterly and annual SEC financial statements and disclosures, earnings releases, and related filings, including XBRL tagging.
- Prepare statement of cash flows, earnings per share calculation, and calculations for stock-based compensation.
- Assist with the preparation of accounting policies and technical accounting memos.
- Assist in providing documentation for internal and external auditors, as needed.
- Complete any additional responsibilities and/or duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- 5 years of prior experience, preferably in the retail industry.
- Strong understanding of accounting theory and US GAAP.
- Detail oriented and deadline driven with good analytical, organization, and communication skills.
- Strong Excel skills and the ability to efficiently manage large data sets (VLOOKUP, Sum-Ifs, Pivot tables, etc.)
- Familiarity with large General Ledger system.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task.
- Ability to adapt quickly and easily and shift approach in response to the demands of the situation.
- Demonstrated flexibility especially during month-end closing processes.
- Ability to think proactively and work in a highly collaborative and fast paced environment.
- Able to present financial data in a concise, logical and useful manner.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to explain financial data and balances.
