Controller, Accounting, Financial Controller

Our client, a well-established and growing manufacturer/distributor in the Baltimore area, is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and finance function. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, inventory accounting, and internal controls while partnering closely with executive leadership to drive business performance.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in manufacturing or distribution accounting, experience managing accounting teams, and a hands‑on leadership style. This opportunity offers the ability to make a meaningful impact within a stable, growth‑oriented organization.

• Lead all day‑to‑day accounting operations, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.
• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Oversee inventory accounting, standard costing, inventory reconciliations, and cost of goods sold analysis.
• Partner with operations and supply chain leadership to improve inventory accuracy, manufacturing efficiencies, and financial performance.
• Develop and maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
• Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management efforts.
• Monitor key financial metrics and provide strategic recommendations to executive leadership.
• Mentor, develop, and lead the accounting team while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Drive process improvement initiatives, automation efforts, and ERP system enhancements.
• Support strategic initiatives, acquisitions, capital investments, and other special projects as needed.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3 years in a Controller or Assistant Controller capacity.
• Manufacturing and/or distribution industry experience required.
• Strong understanding of inventory accounting, cost accounting, and operational finance.
• Experience leading and developing accounting teams.
• Advanced knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
• ERP system experience (Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Oracle, Net Suite, Sage, or similar preferred).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and business partnering abilities.
