Controller, Accounting, Financial Reporting

Description

Our client, a respected independent school, is seeking an experienced Controller to join its Business Office team. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations, financial reporting, budget support, audit coordination, payroll processing, and internal controls. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys partnering across an organization and contributing to a mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

+ Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger activity, accounts payable, and accounts receivable

+ Lead monthly and year-end close processes and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting

+ Prepare financial statements, dashboards, reconciliations, and management reports

+ Support budget management, including reporting, variance analysis, and communication with budget owners

+ Coordinate audit preparation and assist with compliance reporting, including annual filings

+ Reconcile key accounts, including cash, investments, interfund balances, and fixed assets

+ Recommend and implement improvements to accounting procedures, systems, and internal controls

+ Partner with the CFO on special projects and ongoing financial initiatives

Requirements

+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

+ 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including leadership responsibility

+ Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls

+

Experience with audits, budgeting, and account reconciliations

+ Advanced Excel skills and strong overall Microsoft Office proficiency

+ CPA, nonprofit or education experience preferred
