Controller
Location: Baltimore, MD (Hybrid – 4 days onsite, 1 day remote)
A well-established, mission-driven nonprofit organization in the Baltimore area is seeking an experienced Controller to join its senior finance leadership team. The organization provides life-changing services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and behavioral health needs and has earned a strong reputation for excellence, innovation, and financial stewardship.
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will oversee all accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and the monthly and annual close process while leading a talented accounting team.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and fixed assets.
Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
Prepare timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
Coordinate the annual financial statement audit and related reporting.
Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff.
Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and strategic initiatives.
Support continuous process improvement and operational efficiencies.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
CPA strongly preferred.
Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities.
Experience in nonprofit accounting is strongly preferred.
Experience in behavioral health, healthcare, human services, or intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) is preferred but not required.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit management.
Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with modern accounting systems.
