Anderson, Coe & King, LLP is seeking a Controller to oversee the financial operations of our small law firm.
The Controller will be responsible for all accounting, financial reporting, billing, collections, payroll, and financial management functions of the firm. As the successful candidate develops within the organization, there will be opportunities to assume additional administrative and operational responsibilities.
Responsibilities Financial Management & Accounting (Primary Responsibility)- Oversee all accounting and financial operations of the firm.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, collections and trust accounting.
- Monitor cash flow, perform bank transfers and reconciliations, and manage banking relationships.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage, journal entries, write-offs, and general ledger activity.
- Review and approve vendor invoices, ACH transactions, and firm expenditures.
- Monitor aged WIP and receivables, including following up on outstanding balances.
- Develop and implement financial controls, procedures, and reporting systems.
- Manage matter opening and closing procedures, including conflict checks.
- Coordinate with external accounting advisors as needed.
- Maintain internal accounting controls and financial procedures.
- Manage payroll processing and payroll compliance.
- Administer employee benefits programs and retirement plant contributions.
- Coordinate annual benefits open enrollment.
- Oversee the firm’s 401(k) retirement plan and related compliance activities.
- Coordinate with benefit providers, brokers, accountants, and financial advisors.
- Assist with administrative and operational projects.
- Gain exposure to human resources, technology, facilities management, and firm operations.
- Opportunities to assume additional responsibilities and advance in the organization.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Minimum 5 years of accounting or financial management experience, preferably in a law firm or private services environment.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management.
- Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements.
- Knowledge of payroll and benefits.
- Ability to manage multiple business functions and priorities simultaneously.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Net Documents and TABS3 (or comparable programs).
- Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
- Eligibility for an annual performance-based bonus.
