Writer and editor for the Maryland Department of Human Services Office of Communications. This contractual position will include drafting content and editing received content for internal and external communications, including but not limited to press releases, organizational announcements, social media, flyer copy, and web updates. This position would be expected to collaborate closely and effectively with internal and external department offices, programs, and stakeholders, and be strongly familiar with the department's functions, programs, and services.
The ideal candidate will be able to write and edit in the voice of key personnel and consistently deliver finished content fitting the department's style and communications preferences.
- Draft content for internal and external communications, including but not limited to press releases, organizational announcements, social media, flyer copy, and web updates in the voice of key personnel and consistently fitting the department's style and communications preferences.
- Edit received content for internal and external communications, including but not limited to press releases, organizational announcements, social media, flyer copy, and web updates in the voice of key personnel and consistently fitting the department's style and communications preferences.
- Attend meetings and participate in calls with internal and external department offices, programs, and stakeholders to be strongly familiar with the department's functions, programs, and services, as well as to assist plan regular communications rollouts and projects.
- Load, test, and schedule communications for distribution via Gov Delivery and other platforms ensuring the timely receipt of internal and external messages by the correct audiences.
Education:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience:
Four years of administrative staff or professional work.
- One year of experience in communications or a related field.
- One year of experience creating and managing digital content.
- One year of experience working with the local press corps.
