Under general supervision, performs complex clerical work requiring the application of varied procedures and specialized methods. May provide guidance and instruction to office clerks and assistants.
Duties & Responsibilities- Assist in coordination of clerical work for a department or program; plan work flow of assigned clerical tasks.
- Process a variety of documents requiring knowledge of relevant departmental policies and procedures and interaction with others.
- Assemble, compile, and edit data and records.
- Prepare worksheets and reports.
- Identify and resolve clerical processing problems.
- Recommend new or revised procedures, receive and direct calls and visitors, and respond to moderately complex inquiries requiring research or interpretation of departmental policies and procedures.
- Provide referrals to professional staff or others as appropriate; maintain manual and automated record‑keeping and filing systems.
- Enter and retrieve data; code, sort and file documents and materials and perform other duties as assigned.
High School diploma or GED is required.
ExperienceAt least two years of clerical experience is required. Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year‑for‑year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- General knowledge of office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Skill in preparing reports; operating manual and automated office equipment; performing mathematical computations; performing routine clerical tasks; filing documents according to alphabetic and numeric sequences.
- Ability to plan and independently perform specialized clerical tasks; understand and interpret department policies and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective work relationships.
- Ability to operate personal computers and assigned word processing and spreadsheet software.
