The pay rate for this position is $
22 per hour based on experience and geographic location. An additional $4.98
/hr will be provided for up to 40 hours per week as a Health and Welfare stipend under the U.S. Department of Labor Service Contract Act (SCA). You are also eligible to receive pay for up to 10 holidays and annual vacation time payout, as well as access to an employee discount program. Travel time and mileage are fully reimbursable.
RTI International is seeking part-time Field Interviewers to work on the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), a government-sponsored research study conducted since 1971. This study provides up-to-date information on alcohol, tobacco, drug use, mental health, and other health-related issues in the United States.
Responsibilities- Contact selected households and communicate the importance of participating in NSDUH.
- Travel frequently to selected locations to recruit study participants and perform in-person discussions about the study.
- Administer a computer-assisted interview, collect confidential information, and administer standardized questionnaires to selected individuals.
- Independently manage administrative duties, including participating in conference calls and completing online trainings.
- Assume full and legal responsibility for use and care of project-issued equipment; safeguard participant incentives, issued equipment, and project materials against damage, loss, or theft; and carefully track all participant incentives.
- Submit timely and accurate Time & Expense reports; virtually attend scheduled meetings with other project team members.
- Approach selected households without prior appointment; work and drive after dark; adhere to a schedule set by the Field Supervisor for respondent contact times.
- Provide availability for field observations conducted by a member of the client or RTI staff; maintain required system updates to project equipment and complete administrative tasks.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Must possess a High School Diploma or GED
- Effective communication skills through speech and listening; fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking)
- Available for entire training and data collection period; able to successfully complete training
- Must have a valid US driver s license and reliable personal automobile available for business use
- Comfortable using RTI issued tablet, laptop, and related equipment
- Access to a password-protected Wi-Fi connection for data transmissions and administrative responsibilities
- Able to keep project information confidential
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions and after dark
- Regular access to a computer with a webcam or internet-enabled device with a forward-facing camera and reliable internet for training and virtual meetings
- Physical ability to carry, lift, stand, bend, stretch, stoop, type, and climb stairs; up to 13 pounds of equipment or supplies
- Available for a variable work schedule as dictated by the quarterly schedule, size, and location of assignments
Preferred Qualifications for Ideal Candidates
- Positive, self-motivated, curious, and able to interact with people from diverse backgrounds
- Strong time, schedule, and workload management skills
- Computer skills including email and internet proficiency
- Comfortable working in unfamiliar areas; able to travel overnight if needed
- The data collection period is expected to start in September 2026
- Part-time availability approximately 25 hours per week when work is available
- Availability to work in the field 4 days per week on average
- Most work is anticipated to be in the evenings and weekends
- Field trips are expected to be at least 3 hours long, not including travel time
- Must attend all trainings and successfully complete required courses
- Attend a 5-day virtual training with a structured schedule
- After training, must complete and pass a certification demonstrating ability to complete an NSDUH field interview
