Introduction
We are the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS), one of Maryland’s largest departments with nearly 12,000 employees and a $1 billion budget. We are seeking dedicated candidates for a key administrative role supporting the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Deputy Director of Clinical Services.

This recruitment is limited to current DPSCS regular and contractual employees only.
Position Duties- Provide administrative support to the DPSCS Chief Medical Officer and Deputy Director of Clinical Services.
- Use independent judgment to apply and interpret administrative plans and policies.
- Coordinate, compile, process, and maintain tracking databases for the morbidity/mortality program and Public Information Act representation.
- Liaise with Clinical Services, DPSCS Commissioners, Wardens, other programs, and contracted health‑care vendors.
- Receive notifications of deaths of individuals under DPSCS custody and coordinate follow‑up with medical vendors, Agency Contract Operations Managers, and the Intelligence and Investigative Division.
- Process all PIA requests directed to Clinical Services and respond to media requests in support of the CMO’s office.
- Draft memoranda on behalf of the CMO and Deputy Director.
- Manage meeting schedules, take minutes, coordinate family/constituent complaint responses, and maintain Excel databases related to deaths and PIA requests.
- High school graduate or high school equivalency certificate.
- Five years of secretarial or clerical work, including typing duties.
- Substitutions: one year of education for each year of experience, up to two years; U.S. Armed Forces experience in applicable administrative roles may be substituted year‑for‑year.
- Must produce at least 40 words per minute on a personal computer keyboard.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience creating reports and storing data in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Experience managing correspondence from incarcerated individuals or their families.
- Health, dental, and vision insurance.
- Personal Leave: six days annually (prorated based on start date).
- Annual Leave: ten days per year.
- Sick Leave: fifteen days per year.
- Parental Leave: up to sixty days of paid leave.
- State holidays: at least twelve holidays per year.
