Electronics Technician Training Opportunity

BAE Systems is seeking active-duty service members approved to participate in the DoW Skill Bridge Program for an Electronics Technician training opportunity supporting Identification Friend or Foe systems in Saint Inigoes, MD. This Skill Bridge training program is designed to provide hands-on experience in electronics testing, troubleshooting, assembly, documentation, and sustainment activities supporting Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division-Webster Outlying Field's Identification Systems Division.

Participants will train alongside experienced BAE Systems personnel while gaining practical exposure to IFF systems, technical documentation, quality processes, lab operations, and fleet support activities. This opportunity is best suited for service members with a technical background in electronics, electrical systems, avionics, radar, communications, shipboard systems, aviation systems, maintenance, or related military technical fields.

What You'll Learn During the program, participants will receive structured training and practical experience in areas such as:

  • Identification Friend or Foe system fundamentals, including AN/UPX-29(V), AN/APX-123, AN/UPX-41(C), AN/UPX-45(C), and related system configurations
  • IFF system controls, indicators, menus, processors, interfaces, signal flow, and functional operation
  • IFF antenna systems, antenna controls, antenna position programming, and related troubleshooting activities
  • Hands-on lab troubleshooting using sample equipment and practical fault-isolation scenarios
  • RF cabling, cable weatherproofing, connector fabrication, assembly, and testing
  • Electronics test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, megohmmeters, torque screwdrivers, synchro testers, and Anritsu Site Master equipment
  • Electronics assembly and testing processes, including circuit card assemblies, motherboard flashing and testing, power supply drawings, and technology refresh kit testing
  • Safety, quality assurance, electrostatic discharge practices, and quality management system fundamentals
  • Work instructions, technical manuals, test procedures, inspection reports, trip reports, QA workbooks, and travel/expense documentation
  • Reading and interpreting NAVSEA ship installation drawings and related references
  • Fleet support business areas including Depot Overhaul, Foreign Military Sales, Fleet Support Engineering, Fleet Modernization, and Ship Construction

New Training Environment Participants will train in a hands-on technical environment with exposure to both classroom-style instruction and practical lab application. The program is designed to build familiarity with the tools, documentation, processes, and technical expectations associated with an Electronics Technician role supporting Navy mission systems.

  • Reading technical drawings, work instructions, and maintenance documentation
  • Supporting fleet modernization, overhaul, installation, assessment, and certification activities
  • Working in a team-based technical environment supporting mission-critical systems

Program Note This is an unpaid DoW Skill Bridge training opportunity. Participants remain active-duty service members and continue receiving military pay and benefits through their respective service branch. Completion of the program may support consideration for future employment based on business needs, participant performance, qualifications, and available opportunities.

Program Outcome Upon completion of the program, participants should have a stronger working knowledge of IFF systems, electronics testing, troubleshooting, assembly processes, technical documentation, quality practices, and fleet support activities. The goal of the training is to prepare participants for potential transition into an SCA Electronics Technician or similar technical role supporting BAE Systems mission requirements.
