Lead Automotive Technician
In this role you will serve as a leader for lower‑level technicians and mechanics in a vehicle maintenance facility. You will also personally perform the most complex repairs and maintenance on all types of motor vehicles used in the postal fleet.
Job duties include:- Provide technical guidance and instructions to mechanics and technicians on more difficult repairs
- Conduct vehicle inspections, determine necessary repairs, and assign and schedule work for individual employees
- Diagnose vehicles and perform operational checks on engines, major supporting systems, parts and components
- Perform various computerized and electronic diagnostic tests using specialized equipment
- Minimum 2 years professional automotive mechanic experience
- Valid State Driver's License
- High School Diploma or GED
- Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair USPS fleet vehicles
- Perform preventive maintenance and major repairs
- Use computerized diagnostic equipment
- Repair engines, brakes, steering, suspension, transmissions and electrical systems
- Lead and provide technical guidance to other technicians
- Maintain repair records and follow all safety procedures
- Willing to complete a hands‑on automotive skills assessment
- Willing to complete the USPS Federal online application
