Tenure-track faculty position in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Civil and Systems

Overview

General Description:

The Department of Civil and Systems Engineering (CaSE) in the Whiting School of Engineering (WSE) at Johns Hopkins University (JHU) invites applications for faculty positions at all ranks in data science and artificial intelligence (AI). We seek candidates advancing foundational AI methods, including machine learning and data science approaches, with demonstrated connections to civil and systems engineering domains. The research should have potential for transformational impact on built and societal systems, including materials, manufacturing, construction, structures, communities and cities, public health, energy, and transportation.

The successful candidate will join a department with faculty working across scales from atomistic to global, sharing a commitment to bring engineering solutions to society’s challenges. CaSE has a history of computational modeling, optimization, and uncertainty quantification in physics-based and data-based simulation enabling engineers, decision-makers, and the public to address complex problems. CaSE has identified grand societal challenges and aims to impact society positively through research and service.

This position is enabled by investments in data science and AI and the Johns Hopkins Data Science and AI Institute (DSAI Institute). The WSE is expanding with new faculty, a new building to house the DSAI Institute, and enhanced computational infrastructure to support research and collaboration. Candidates will have opportunities to collaborate with university-wide initiatives in public policy and sustainable energy (ROSEI), as well as other JHU schools and CaSE affiliated centers and institutes.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold an earned doctorate in an appropriate field by the time of appointment, have a record of research excellence and a clear vision for a research program in data science and AI for civil and systems engineering, and a commitment to high-quality teaching, mentoring, and inclusive excellence.

Salary Range

The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University s good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Actual compensation may vary and will depend on factors such as geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training, and other factors as determined by the University.
