Business Development Manager – Intellectual Property (Contract)

Location: NYC, DC, Chicago, SF, LA, Miami

Duration: 6–7 months (potential to convert to full-time)

Compensation: Up to $180,000/year (prorated). Some flex

Overview

Seeking a strategic and proactive Business Development Manager to support the Intellectual Property (IP) practice group. This role is ideal for a BD Specialist ready to step up or an experienced BD Manager with law firm experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute business development strategies aligned with IP group goals
• Lead pitch and proposal development, including RFP responses
• Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify growth opportunities
• Manage client events, sponsor ships, and thought leadership initiatives
• Collaborate with attorneys on client targeting and relationship development
• Oversee directory submissions and awards (e.g., Chambers, IAM Patent 1000)
• Maintain marketing collateral, bios, and experience databases
• Support integration of lateral hires into BD initiatives

Qualifications

• 4–7+ years of BD or marketing experience in a law firm or professional services environment
• Strong understanding of Intellectual Property law (patent litigation, prosecution, licensing)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate across teams
• Experience with CRM systems and legal marketing tools
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or JD a plus
