The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), one of the largest transit systems in the United States, is seeking a Payroll Processing Supervisor to join its Office of Financial Management. This position plays a critical role in overseeing and coordinating the agency’s union payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all payroll processes.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and manage payroll operations for approximately 2,800 active union employees (weekly) and 2,300 pension employees (monthly).
- Audit and analyze time submissions, hours worked, and payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Generate and review reports to support audits, data analysis, and process improvements.
- Collaborate with internal teams including HR, Labor Relations, Finance, IT, and external partners such as ADP.
- Assist the Payroll Manager with daily operations, team objectives, and implementation of new processes.
- Troubleshoot payroll issues related to pay codes, PTO benefits, pension, holidays, and other ADP system functions.
- Ensure accuracy of the general ledger and coordinate with Finance on payroll-related financial transactions.
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and enhance customer service.
Education
:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience
:
Five (5) years of experience in administrative or professional work. One (1) year of this experience must have involved the supervision of other employees, overseeing and coordinating the general operations of a unit, applying rules and regulations, or exercising responsibility for the development of policies or procedures. One (1) year of the experience must have been in processing payroll garnishments, tax liens, alimony, and child support.
- Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a master's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher‑ranking commissioned officer on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience.
