Job Description & How to Apply Below

Summary

Bohlin Group is hiring a Senior Associate to help manage and coordinate a complex, multi-party infrastructure development project focused on port, rail, and freight — with significant federal grant funding.

This is a coordination and execution role for someone who already knows how federal infrastructure grants work. You’ll help keep complicated projects organized: tracking work streams, managing consultants, drafting grant narratives and reporting, and making sure the right people have the right information at the right time. Over time, you’ll take on more strategic responsibility as you build fluency in how these projects come together.

This is a strong fit for someone who has worked on federal grant‑funded infrastructure on the agency side, the consulting side, or for a project sponsor, and wants to move into a broader project development and strategy role.

What you’ll do
  • Support federal and state infrastructure funding efforts across the grant lifecycle, including USDOT/FRA programs such as INFRA, CRISI, PIDP, and related opportunities.
  • Draft grant narratives, budget justifications, memos, scope descriptions, and briefing materials.
  • Manage pre‑award and post‑award grant work: project management plans, reporting, reimbursement support, and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate inputs from engineers, environmental consultants, public agencies, commercial partners, attorneys, and grant administrators — keeping work streams organized and on track.
  • Help develop and maintain project schedules, work plans, budgets, and implementation trackers.
  • Review and synthesize consultant deliverables, flagging issues and summarizing findings for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support RFPs, consultant scopes, grant agreements, and related project documents.
  • Serve as an organized, reliable point of contact across a project environment where many parties are moving simultaneously.
What we’re looking for
  • 2–5 years of experience working on federally funded or financed infrastructure projects — whether on the public side (agency, grantee) or the private side (consulting, project sponsor, developer).
  • Direct familiarity with the federal grant lifecycle: applications, narratives, budgets, and pre‑/post‑award administration and compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Strong organizational skills: comfort tracking multiple work streams, setting up systems, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Clear, structured writing: you can explain what’s happening, what decisions need to be made, and why.
  • Comfort working in ambiguous, multi‑stakeholder environments where you don’t always have a clear playbook.
  • A practical orientation: you notice gaps, propose next steps, and take responsibility for follow‑through.
  • Interest in growing into a more strategic role over time — understanding how infrastructure projects get funded, structured, and built.
Helpful but not required
  • Experience specifically with USDOT, FRA, or MARAD programs.
  • Familiarity with rail, ports, freight, or logistics infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with federal credit programs such as TIFIA or RRIF.
  • A background in civil engineering, transportation, or operations.
  • Experience managing consultants or coordinating across technical teams.
  • Exposure to project finance, procurement, or public‑private partnerships.
Who will do well in this role

You already understand how federal infrastructure grants get won and administered, and you’re energized by making complicated, multi‑party projects run smoothly. You have enough technical fluency to engage with engineers and understand what they’re producing, but you’re drawn to the broader coordination and strategy challenges. You want early ownership of real work, you’re willing to do the execution that comes with it, and you’re looking for a role where you can grow quickly into something more strategic.
