Job Description Chief Estimator (Commercial Drywall Construction)
Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to lead estimating operations for a high‑volume commercial construction firm. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the full preconstruction process, mentoring junior estimators, and driving profitable project acquisition through accurate and strategic bidding.
This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring strong technical estimating skills, software proficiency, and the ability to manage people and processes.
Key Responsibilities- Lead all estimating and preconstruction efforts for commercial projects ranging from small scopes to $10M+
- Oversee, review, and validate estimates prepared by junior estimators
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and pricing using OST / Quick Bid software
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and bid documents to identify risks and opportunities
- Develop bid strategies focused on margin, accuracy, and long‑term client relationships
- Collaborate with operations and leadership to ensure smooth handoff from preconstruction to execution
- Maintain bid schedules and ensure timely, complete submissions
- Support business development through relationship‑driven estimating (not purely low‑bid)
- Minimum 5+ years of commercial estimating experience (more preferred)
- Mandatory experience with OST / Quick Bid
- Proven experience estimating commercial construction projects up to $10M
- Prior experience leading or mentoring estimators is strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of construction documents, scopes, and cost drivers
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment
- Must be willing to work 100% in‑office
