Chief Estimator (Commercial Drywall Construction)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to lead estimating operations for a high-volume commercial construction firm. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the full preconstruction process, mentoring junior estimators, and driving profitable project acquisition through accurate and strategic bidding.

This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring strong technical estimating skills, software proficiency, and the ability to manage people and processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all estimating and preconstruction efforts for commercial projects ranging from small scopes to $10M+.
  • Oversee, review, and validate estimates prepared by junior estimators.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and pricing using OST / Quick Bid software.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and bid documents to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Develop bid strategies focused on margin, accuracy, and long-term client relationships.
  • Collaborate with operations and leadership to ensure smooth handoff from preconstruction to execution.
  • Maintain bid schedules and ensure timely, complete submissions.
  • Support business development through relationship-driven estimating (not purely low-bid).
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5+ years of commercial estimating experience (more preferred).
  • Mandatory experience with OST / Quick Bid.
  • Proven experience estimating commercial construction projects up to $10M.
  • Prior experience leading or mentoring estimators is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction documents, scopes, and cost drivers.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Must be willing to work 100% in‑office.
