Estimating Manager – Heavy Highway / Civil
Location:
Baltimore, MD
We are seeking a Senior Estimator / Estimating Manager to join a growing heavy highway and heavy civil construction firm. This role is ideal for a project manager, project engineer, or experienced estimator looking to lead a cohesive estimating team and contribute to winning high-value projects.
What You’ll Do- Review and interpret project specifications and drawings.
- Produce accurate take-offs and pricing for heavy highway and civil construction projects ranging from $10M to $100M.
- Prepare and manage minority participation matrices and analyze self-perform versus subcontracted work.
- Solicit quotations from subcontractors and vendors.
- Assist in creating construction schedules and equipment utilization plans.
- Maintain labor, equipment, and vendor databases for estimating purposes.
- Lead small estimating teams and mentor junior estimators.
- Participate in joint venture estimates and coordinate quantity and cost comparisons.
- Identify project risks and opportunities to improve competitiveness.
- Communicate effectively with internal staff, subcontractors, vendors, and clients while maintaining ethical standards.
- 4-year Engineering Degree or equivalent.
- Estimating experience in heavy highway or heavy civil projects.
- Technical training or related construction experience.
- Strong math, analytical, and computer skills.
- 10+ years of experience in heavy highway or heavy civil construction.
- Experience with Design-Build or P3 projects.
- Proficiency with HCSS Heavy Bid, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Smart Bid, Teams, SharePoint, CADD, Viewpoint Vista, and P6.
- Experience estimating all types of projects/contracts.
- Experience supervising or mentoring other estimators.
- Lead a high-performing estimating team in a culture committed to accuracy, innovation, and consistency.
