Job Overview
DPR Construction is seeking an estimator with at least 5 years of commercial construction experience. Estimators will work primarily on negotiated commercial projects within our core markets and collaborate closely with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors.
Responsibilities- Handle the project from first estimate through formalization of subcontracts.
- Go beyond the information provided to ask the right questions and deliver a complete cost evaluation.
- Act as a collaborative advocate for customers, empowering and informing them throughout the project.
- Provide innovative solutions to complex issues related to cost, lead times, trade partners, and specified products or materials.
- Make reliable cost predictions and estimate across all scopes of work.
- Prepare detailed conceptual cost estimates and studies from schematic or feasibility documentation.
- Create detailed estimates and, as design evolves, develop variance summaries between estimates and value‑engineering studies.
- Assemble a complete, presentation‑worthy estimate package that clearly communicates project cost.
- Collaborate with the project team to establish staffing and project requirements.
- Understand unit costs and factors affecting construction cost.
- Prepare detailed instructions to bidders, trade‑specific clarifications, and comprehensive bid packages.
- Handle the bidding process: solicit bids, communicate with bidders, evaluate proposals, and use bid tally sheets.
- Recommend subcontractor awards to the customer/owner and negotiate and finalize subcontracts with trade partners.
- Lead the preparation and presentation of cost/budget information to the customer/owner.
- Participate in request‑for‑proposal responses (RFPs) and formal project presentations.
- Engage and develop business with new and existing customers.
- Excellent listening skills and strong communication skills.
- Creative and innovative approaches to project‑by‑project challenges.
- Ability to identify, adapt to, and resolve complex issues.
- Effective team participation with both external and internal teammates.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, estimating software (Win Est, Timberline or similar), take‑off software (On‑Screen Takeoff or similar), BIM tools (Revit, Assemble, etc.), project management software (CMiC or similar), and scheduling software (Primavera or similar).
- 5+ years of experience as a commercial construction estimator, preferably within DPR’s core markets.
- Bachelor’s degree is a plus but not required.
- A strong work ethic and a "can‑do" attitude.
