Job Description
Railroad Construction Company, Inc. is seeking a motivated, highly organized professional to support our growing operations in the Baltimore / Washington, D.C. Metro area. This role is for a Project Engineer who is also capable, open to and enjoys Estimating.
If you’re passionate about heavy civil construction, enjoy both preconstruction and project engineering, and are comfortable taking on a variety of responsibilities, we’d love to hear from you.
Responsibilities- Analyze project documents for risk, schedule, and profitability
- Review plans/specs and prepare accurate, competitive bid proposals
- Perform quantity take-offs and pricing for materials, subcontractors, and crews
- Communicate with owners, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors
- Visit project sites to evaluate construction methods and progress
- Ensure safety is always a top priority by leading by example following our Company and the Clients policies.
- Interpret construction drawings and project documents.
- Create and distribute construction work plans.
- Inspect job sites for quality and progress.
- Provide technical support to field crews.
- Coordinate material deliveries and subcontractors.
- Track materials, report progress and help manage project budgets.
- Handle RFIs, submittals and project documentation.
- Attend project meetings and provide updates
- Perform quality control and assurance checks.
To be considered, preferred applicants should present the following:
- Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- Skilled in construction means/methods and production for structures, roadways, sitework, and utilities.
- Strong leadership, communication, and attention to detail.
- 5+ years in Engineering/Estimating
- Tech‑savvy, with MS Office proficiency and Blue Beam, Heavy Bid desired.
- Ability to deliver winning, value‑driven bids.
- Experience with trackwork is a plus.
- Knowledge of union agreements is a plus.
- Experience with alternate delivery methods (e.g. Design Build is a plus.)
