Construction Inspector Trainee

We are looking for Construction Inspector Trainees to join our growing team supporting Baltimore City's Department of Public Works (DPW). The Inspector Trainee receives training in inspection practices and procedures required for inspecting DPW construction projects. Trainees receive close supervision from a construction supervisor or senior construction inspector.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Entry-level inspection work will be in one of the following Public Works areas:
- Water & Sewer Pipeline New Installations
- Water & Sewer Rehabilitation & Urgent Emergency Repairs
- Remedial Storm Drainage Repairs
- Storm Drains & Culverts - Water
- Wastewater Facility Upgrades - Typical Work
Duties include: - Reading & Interpreting Construction Plan
- Understanding Specification Requirements
- Sampling & Testing Construction Material
- Generating Inspector Daily Reports including the Following Documentation:
- Contractor Daily Work Activity & Crews
- Measuring, Calculating & Reporting Quantities
- Providing Detailed Sketches to Support Quantity Calculations
- Uploading Daily Reports to Unifier
- Other construction inspection duties as required for a given task assignment
- Position requires some and/ or all the following skillsets depending on the assigned construction project type. This list is not inclusive. The position may require other duties, as required, to accomplish the work.
- Ability to read and interpret regulations, procedures, standards, and codes.
- Ability to perform arithmetic and geometric calculations.
- Ability to learn to read blueprints, sketches and diagrams.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to effectively communicate with others.
- Ability to keep records and write daily reports.
- Ability to learn inspection methods and techniques.
- Ability to learn the techniques for inspecting construction projects or materials for compliance with specifications, sketches and standards.
- Ability to learn to perform basic field tests for construction materials.
- Willingness to be trained in construction inspection & reporting procedures.
- Ability to be timely in reporting to assigned jobsites
- Willingness to perform related inspection work as required.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or State equivalency certificate (GED) required
- Graduation from Baltimore City's YH2O Program
- OSHA 10 Certification
- First Aid/AED Certification
- Basic computer software skills including Microsoft Office & Outlook
- Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Must have a dependable vehicle or other means of transportation to project jobsites
Physical Requirements:
This position works a full-time, 40-hour work week. Work is performed outdoors or in facilities where there is exposure to adverse weather, unsanitary conditions and construction or traffic hazards. Work requires standing, walking or climbing on a regular basis.

The hourly compensation for this trainee position is fixed at $18.00/ hour.
