The Estimating/Preconstruction Department of Clark Construction is responsible for preparing budgets and bids for all Clark projects, and for continuous preconstruction on awarded projects that are in the development phase.
Responsibilities- Maintain high standards of professionalism and ethical behavior when representing the Company.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects.
- Lead or perform portions of estimates for multi-discipline projects, including understanding scope and performing accurate quantity surveys.
- Supervise and train other estimators in your primary area of expertise.
- Solicit subcontractor and/or vendor quotes and evaluate them for scope and qualifications.
- Lead meetings with subcontractors to develop complete scopes and discuss strategy.
- Perform risk and contract management responsibilities as required on bids.
- Assist in developing a strategy to achieve minority participation requirements.
- Review total estimate to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to formal quotation.
- Monitor comparison of estimated costs to actual costs.
- Research and promote continuous improvement in developing more efficient estimating methods.
- Examine construction sites and observe unusual or challenging conditions.
- Support legal and compliance requirements in estimating and preconstruction activities.
- Attend meetings with owners, subcontractors, and internal teams to clarify scope and requirements.
- Prepare and present estimate summaries to project leadership.
- 8-10+ years of estimating and cost control experience.
- Undergraduate degree in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
- Ability to lead or be part of a team for multiple projects and pursuits simultaneously.
- Knowledge of On-Screen Take-off, Microsoft Excel, and Bluebeam software.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to multi-task.
- Detail oriented, technically sound, and with good communication skills.
- Familiarity with conceptual, detailed, and self-perform estimating.
- Experience with the local subcontractor market is a plus.
- Field experience on project sites.
- Knowledge of local subcontractor market and minority participation requirements.
This is an active, hands-on role. You will be on your feet frequently, navigating active job sites with uneven terrain, stairs, ladders, and hoists. The role requires the ability to lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. You must be able to communicate effectively, read plans, and inspect work. Desk time in the office may involve prolonged sitting for computer work, document review, and meetings.
WorkEnvironment
The job requires work on active construction sites with varying weather, moderate to loud noise levels, and confined spaces. You will also spend time in a typical office setting with moderate noise. Safety is a top priority; you must follow Clark Construction’s safety policies and procedures, and applicable laws at all locations.
Performance ExpectationsThis is a demanding, high-performance environment. Candidates must be energized by challenge, thrive under pressure, and be prepared to work extended hours during critical project phases or client deadlines. Availability to respond to phone calls, emails, and text messages for time-sensitive matters or emergencies is expected.
BenefitsBase salary range: $110,000 – 225,000, with bonus potential.
