Superintendent - Wet Utility

Leading Underground Utility Contractor is looking for an experienced wet utility (Water and sewer) Superintendent to lead crews in the Baltimore region.

Position Overview:

The Wet Utility Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing all field operations related to wet utility installation and maintenance. This includes managing crews, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers, and ensuring the successful execution of utility projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in wet utility construction, leadership abilities, and a strong knowledge of relevant codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and direct field crews performing the installation, repair, and maintenance of water, sewer, and storm drain systems.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to company specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Project Management Team on performing take-offs, material procurement, creating and executing work schedules, crew/equipment make-up, production goals, duration, and close out.
  • Identifying, processing, and tracking potential change orders
  • Close work with Human Resources on all new hiring of field craft, yearly evaluations, and disciplinary issues
  • Coordinate with Shop, and equipment vendors on needs, moves, and maintenance issues.
  • Conduct daily site inspections to ensure safety, quality, and compliance with project plans and local codes.
  • Monitor the progress of work and make adjustments as needed to keep projects on track.
  • Attendance to all pre-con, safety, customer and in-house progress meetings.
  • Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support to crews on-site.
  • Conduct safety meetings and ensure adherence to OSHA and other safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including daily logs, time sheets, and equipment usage.
  • Troubleshoot any issues that arise during construction and work with the team to find solutions.
  • Communicate with clients, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure project success.
  • Assist with training and development of field staff.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is a plus).
  • 5+ years of experience in wet utility construction, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • O.S.H.A 30 Certificate
  • In-depth knowledge of wet utility construction methods, materials, and local building codes.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and practices in construction.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate teams and work with various stakeholders.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must clear background check, and pre-employment drug screen
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with trenchless technology or other specialized wet utility installation methods.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of environmental and regulatory compliance for wet utility projects.
  • Bi-lingual a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Excel a plus
  • Experience with HCSS software.
  • Erosion and Sediment Control Certifications a plus
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in outdoor, often adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform manual labor when necessary.
  • Capability to stand or walk for long periods and navigate construction sites.
