Safety Lead – Mechanical Construction / Fabrication

Highland Consulting Group, a national executive recruiting firm specializing in the Commercial and Industrial construction markets, has been retained to identify a strong Safety Lead for a respected contractor in the Baltimore, MD area.

This is a full‑time, permanent opportunity with a company that values safety as a core part of its culture—not just a jobsite requirement. The position supports local projects, so travel is minimal, and it offers the opportunity to work alongside an experienced team of safety professionals within a stable and growing organization.

The ideal candidate will bring hands‑on safety experience in mechanical construction, fabrication, or a closely related construction environment, along with a proactive approach to training, compliance, reporting, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, update, and implement site‑specific safety plans that meet project and client requirements.
  • Maintain an active on‑site presence to support safe work practices and ensure program compliance.
  • Train field staff and subcontractors on safe construction practices, procedures, and regulatory expectations.
  • Partner with project teams and clients to manage the safety program and support a strong safety culture.
  • Prepare accurate daily reports for internal management and client review.
  • Monitor ongoing projects, identify potential hazards, and drive corrective action when needed.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of safety experience in construction, preferably within mechanical construction, fabrication, or a similar environment.
  • Experience supporting major construction projects and working closely with field teams.
  • CHST certification required; OSHA 510, NFPA 70E, ASP, CSP, or USACE EM 385 experience/certifications are preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; safety‑related degree preferred.
  • Strong understanding of applicable safety regulations, documentation, reporting, and tracking systems.
  • Ability to train, coach, and influence employees and subcontractors in safe work practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients, management, and field personnel.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, establish timelines, and maintain organized records.
  • Stable work history and a demonstrated commitment to improving safety processes and field execution.
Benefits

The company offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employees and their families, including healthcare, 401(k), project bonuses, annual company bonuses, education and certification allowances, paid vacation, and paid holidays.
