Job Summary
Travel Information Aide I – contractual position within the Office of Tourism Development. The incumbent will work 80 hours bi‑weekly, assisting in selling Maryland as a premier travel destination according to the Office of Tourism Development’s Annual Marketing and Development Plan.
LocationYoughiogheny Overlook Welcome Center, I‑68 Eastbound MM#6 Friendsville, MD 21531.
Responsibilities- Provide high‑quality customer service and dissemination of product knowledge at the Welcome Center.
- Execute Welcome Center operational duties as outlined in the WC handbook and applicable state regulations.
- Increase transactional outcomes by sharing destination‑related information on visitor experiences, events, businesses, deals, discounts, and promotions.
- Efficiently and effectively offer operational assistance to the Welcome Center and the Office of Tourism Development.
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high‑school equivalency certificate.
- Two (2) years of experience working in public information in a tourism‑related industry.
- Strong customer‑service and communication skills.
- Experience conducting self‑directed research to stay current on tourism information in a specific geographic area.
- Experience with Maryland attractions, accommodations, recreational facilities, services, events, and destinations.
- Works Thursday to Monday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, including weekends.
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Contractual employees working 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for subsidized health‑benefits coverage under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program. Employees pay 25% of premiums and the state subsidizes 75%. Eligibility for dental, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance is also available, with the employee responsible for the full premium. Leave may be granted at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
