Under general supervision by a licensed dentist,
perform general chairside and clinical functions related to patient dental care, as permitted by the Maryland COMAR regulation.
- Performintraoral rinsing and aspiration procedures
- Retract oral tissues, including lips, cheeks, tongue, and flaps
- Placeand remove materials used for isolation of the dentition (non-retentive materials only)
- Checkfor loose orthodontic bands
- Provide oral hygiene instructions to patients
- Performintraoral photography
- Exposeand process dental radiographs
- Take impressions for mouth guards or diagnostic casts
- Apply topical anesthesia
- Cure dental materials using a halogen light
- Assist with oral surgery procedures
- Assist with Endodontic procedures
- Assist with dental anesthesia procedures, as permitted, with exceptional proficiency
- Order,receive, and maintain inventory of clinical supplies and equipment
- Cleanand maintain clinical equipment and properly dispose of materials after procedures
- Perform infection control procedures, including setting up disposable barriers andproper sharps handling
- Enterdata and schedule follow-up appointments as needed
- Float between clinics based on operational needs
- Collaborate with the business manager and scheduling team to support clinic operations
Additional Duties:
In addition to your original duties as outlined in this job description, all Clinical Dental Assistants are required to float as needed between different departments to support staffing shortages and operational needs.
