Plans, designs, prepares, and reviews architectural construction documents relating to additions, alterations, and renovations. Performs design efforts and provides technical expertise, under the general supervision of the Design Manager. This sequence of job titles is structured to reflect an employee's increasing professional capabilities in the field of Architecture including increasing competence in evaluating specialized project needs and incorporating them into the goals of JHM.
Assists in the development of and/or reviews project program and scope requirements with client, inhouse design team or outside consultants.
Obtains field measurements, documents site conditions, etc.; translates scopes into design; prepares, reviews and edits project drawings and specifications.
Works with inhouse design staff to provide technical knowledge, as required.
Provides construction support services; i.e., reviews submittals, attends progress meetings, develops change orders, resolves field problems, and assists commissioning effort.
Applies professional registration stamp and signature to construction documents.
Coordinates and oversees post-occupancy evaluations.
Assists project management and technical services groups, and Designers and Drafters, as requested.
Provides direction, monitors and reviews design work produced by outside consultants.
Ensures that project programs reflect Hospital improvement efforts (e.g., design standards, standard specifications, special projects).
Ensures that institutional priorities, imperatives and patient care initiatives are addressed and supported by design and implementation strategy.
Uses relevant references to ensure successful project progress.
Ensures that proper codes/documents are available to and used by design staff.
Observes and assesses existing conditions and situations in facility.
Investigate and recommends changes to improve design efforts.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Master's in architecture is preferred. This preference may be waived in accordance with the schedule as follows:

Preferred four (4) years of contemporary experience in the design of medical facilities, research laboratories or similar building projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Work requires attention to detail.
Work requires visual acuity.
Knowledge of construction methods and equipment installation/inspection.
Foundation and current knowledge of design, construction, operations and maintenance fields, and governmental regulations and codes, generally and as applicable to employee's discipline.
Basic knowledge of computer applications (PC- and network-based), including Windows, departmental e-mail, word processing, database, spreadsheet, project management, presentation, and CADD packages.
Proficient written and verbal English communication skills.
High level of ability to solve problems and manage information.
Ability to plan, research, analyze, coordinate, implement and present project requirements.
Ability to generate clear design direction and convey the same to Architects, Senior Architectural Designers, Architectural Designers, and Drafters.
Interacts professionally with JHM/departmental staff as well as contractor's, manufacturers, vendors and consultants.
Reads and interprets complex construction documents, service manuals and other, technical documents.
Creates and follows complex instructions on prints, drawings and oral instructions.
Prepares specifications on products, installation and general workmanship on projects.
Effectively communicates (written & orally) with supervisor and departmental/JHM staff.
Understands, and assimilates, JHH and departmental policies, procedures and systems.
Current, valid professional registration as Registered Architect (R.A.) in Maryland.
Salary Range:
Minimum 44.81/hour - Maximum 71.70/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
