The Life Bridge Health Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) is a well-established, high-quality cardiovascular program performing more than 3,000 cardiac procedures and operations annually.

Life Bridge Health is seeking an experienced Cardiac Surgeon / Medical Director, Cardiac ICU & Quality Improvement to join the Cardiovascular Institute at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. This unique physician leadership opportunity combines a robust adult cardiac surgery practice with dedicated medical leadership of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) and cardiovascular quality improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated excellence in adult cardiac surgery along with a strong interest in physician leadership, quality, outcomes, multidisciplinary collaboration, and continued development of a high-performing cardiovascular program.

  • Employed physician position based at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore.
  • Full-time position with a combination of clinical cardiac surgery and medical director responsibilities.
  • Comprehensive adult cardiac surgical practice with the opportunity to perform the full spectrum of adult cardiac procedures, including TAVR.
  • Expertise in TAVR required, additional catheter-based skills desirable.
  • Opportunity to participate in complex valve surgery, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repair and replacement, aortic surgery, and other procedures consistent with training and experience.
  • Leadership responsibility for the Cardiac ICU, including clinical standards, multidisciplinary collaboration, quality, patient safety, and performance improvement.
  • Leadership of cardiac surgery/CICU quality improvement initiatives and outcomes monitoring.
  • Collaboration with CVI, Chief Cardiac Surgeon, and hospital leadership on strategic cardiovascular program development.
  • Participation in multidisciplinary Heart Team and Structural Heart activities.
  • Shared cardiac surgery call responsibilities.
  • Combination of operative, inpatient, outpatient, consultation, postoperative, and physician leadership responsibilities.
Medical Director Responsibilities

The Medical Director, Cardiac ICU & Quality Improvement will provide physician leadership focused on clinical excellence, quality, patient safety, outcomes, and continuous improvement across the cardiac surgical and critical care continuum.

Responsibilities include:
  • Provide medical leadership for the Cardiac ICU in partnership with nursing, critical care, cardiac surgery, cardiology, anesthesia, and advanced practice providers.
  • Establish and promote evidence-based clinical standards and care pathways for the cardiac surgical patient.
  • Lead and support quality improvement initiatives related to cardiac surgery, CICU care, patient safety, outcomes, and care transitions.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in review and analysis of cardiac surgery and cardiovascular quality data.
  • Support STS Registry participation, data review, benchmarking, and performance improvement initiatives, as applicable.
  • Lead or participate in multidisciplinary morbidity and mortality conferences and quality review activities.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based protocols and processes designed to improve outcomes, efficiency, and patient experience.
  • Collaborate with nursing, anesthesia, perfusion, critical care, rehabilitation, quality, and administrative leadership to address opportunities for improvement.
  • Mentor physicians, APPs, and clinical team members.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and clinical excellence.
  • Support accreditation, regulatory readiness, quality reporting, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Partner with CVI leadership and the Chief of Cardiac Surgery to advance cardiovascular services, physician integration, and strategic program development.
  • Serve as a physician leader and advocate for continued development of the cardiac surgery and CICU programs across Life Bridge Health.
