Position Information
OverviewHonors Coordinator at Howard Community College (HCC) serves as a case manager and point of contact for students in HCC Honors and Undergraduate Research programs and assists in designing and executing curricular and co-curricular programming with emphasis on 4-year transfer, scholarship advising, leadership development, and service learning and community engagement. The Coordinator supports other Honors program areas as needed and also contributes to recruitment and admissions efforts and data-gathering and assessment.
EssentialRole Responsibilities
- Coordinate and execute on-campus and off-campus programming and activities (e.g., retreats, open houses, field trips, service learning integrations).
- Manage, maintain, and develop programs and resources for the HCC Honors Commons.
- In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Honors and Undergraduate Research, organize the annual Scholars Symposium.
- Conduct outreach and hold one-on-one meetings to track student progress in the Honors programs (including cases of probation) and provide appropriate resource referrals.
- Update and maintain Honors and Undergraduate Research processes documentation.
- Proactively monitor the regional and national landscape of transfer institutions and support the development of transfer resources and programming for Honors and Undergraduate Research students in different fields.
- Develop outreach materials and strategies related to prestigious national scholarships (e.g. Jack Kent Cooke, Goldwater) and advise and support individual student applicants.
- Represent Honors and Undergraduate Research during on-campus and community recruitment and networking events.
- Maintain program cohorts in Colleague and Canvas.
- Assist in the preparation of Honors and Undergraduate Research newsletters and communications.
- Monitor the Honors email account.
- Update, manage, and maintain outward facing Honors and Undergraduate Research websites and social media accounts.
- Support the Honors and Undergraduate Research office's efforts to develop assessment metrics and to gather, analyze, and present relevant data.
- Write letters of recommendation for current and former honors students as requested.
- Demonstrated attention to detail.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of Honors programs and students.
Bachelor's degree
Experience Required3
Preferred Experience- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field;
Master's degree will be an asset. - At least three years of applicable administrative experience.
- Operational knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office, Google Suite and learning management systems, especially Canvas.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students in an instructional and/or advising capacity.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse constituencies.
- Ability to take independent initiative while functioning as part of a team.
- Ability to adapt proactively to changing work demands and priorities while maintaining a positive attitude and demeanor.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Regular attendance is a requirement of this job.
- Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions on the college's sustainability initiatives in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity.

The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
